How to redeem Tether Gold (XAUT) for physical gold

Tether Gold tokens are designed so that holders can exchange them for the real gold they represent. This guide walks through exactly how that works — the official token contract, the full-bar minimum, the fees, and what to expect at delivery — using only TG Commodities' published terms.

Short answer

Redemption is only available to verified customers of the issuer, TG Commodities, and only for whole gold bars — in practice a deposit of about 430 XAUT, since bars weigh roughly 385–415 fine troy ounces. The gold is delivered within Switzerland, or TG Commodities can attempt to sell the bar and pay you the proceeds in US dollars. The redemption fee is 0.25% plus delivery costs. Most holders with smaller balances simply sell their XAUT on the market instead.

First, confirm you hold the real token

Only tokens from the official contract can ever be redeemed. Tether's supported-protocols page lists the XAUT contract on Ethereum as:

0x68749665FF8D2d112Fa859AA293F07A622782F38

Check this against Tether's official supported-protocols page before moving any tokens. A different address — including one from older announcements — is not the current redeemable token.

What each token represents

Every XAUT represents ownership of one fine troy ounce of gold on a specific physical bar meeting the London Bullion Market Association's "London Good Delivery" standard. The bars are held by a custodian in a Swiss vault on behalf of token holders, and each bar is identifiable by a unique serial number, weight and purity. TG Commodities operates a Look-up Website at gold.tether.to where you can see which bar your tokens are allocated to.

The redemption process, step by step

  1. 1

    Confirm the token contract

Before anything else, check that your tokens are the real thing. Tether's supported-protocols page lists the official XAUT contract on Ethereum as 0x68749665FF8D2d112Fa859AA293F07A622782F38. Only that address is the redeemable token.

  2. 2

Check which bar your tokens are allocated to

Each XAUT represents one fine troy ounce of a specific London Good Delivery bar, identifiable by serial number, weight and purity. TG Commodities' Look-up Website at gold.tether.to shows the bar your address's tokens are allocated to.

  3. 3

Open and verify an account with TG Commodities

Redemption is only available to a KYC Verified Customer of the issuer, TG Commodities, S.A. de C.V. The onboarding process carries a 150 USDT verification fee.

  4. 4

Deposit enough tokens for a full bar

Redemptions happen only in whole bars. Bars weigh roughly 385–415 fine troy ounces, so holders are generally asked to deposit about 430 XAUT to cover a full bar; any excess tokens are returned.

  5. 5

Choose delivery in Switzerland or a market sale

The bar can be delivered to a location of your choosing in Switzerland — delivery outside Switzerland is not currently offered — or you can ask TG Commodities to attempt to sell the bar in the Swiss gold market and remit the proceeds to you in US dollars.

  6. 6

Pay the redemption fee and receive the gold

The redemption fee is 25 bps (0.25%) of the redemption cost, plus the cost of physical delivery to your chosen Swiss location. On redemption the tokens are removed from circulation, and the gold is yours.

Costs and conditions to know upfront

  • Verification: becoming a KYC Verified Customer carries a 150 USDT verification fee.
  • Redemption fee: 25 bps (0.25%) of the redemption cost.
  • Delivery: you pay the cost of physical delivery to your chosen location in Switzerland.
  • Whole bars only: partial-bar redemption is not offered; excess deposited tokens are returned.
  • Switzerland only: delivery outside Switzerland is not currently offered; onward transport is your responsibility.
  • Completion: redeemed tokens are removed from circulation once the gold leaves the vault.

All figures above come from the issuer's Relevant Information Document as published on gold.tether.to, and can change — confirm the current terms with TG Commodities before starting a redemption.

A practical alternative for most holders

A full gold bar is a serious allocation. If you hold less than ~430 XAUT — or simply want liquidity rather than a bar — the ordinary route is to sell or swap your tokens on the market at the going gold price. SwapRocket lists XAUT on Ethereum (ERC-20), so you can exchange it for another cryptocurrency without an account. You can read more about how the token works in our Tether Gold profile.

Perguntas frequentes

What is the minimum amount of XAUT I can redeem?

Redemptions are only possible for full gold bars. Because London Good Delivery bars usually weigh about 385–415 fine troy ounces, TG Commodities generally asks redeeming holders to deposit around 430 XAUT to make sure the deposit covers a whole bar. Any tokens left over after the bar is allocated are returned.

Where can the gold be delivered?

Physical delivery is currently offered only to a location in Switzerland chosen by the verified holder, acting reasonably. TG Commodities does not currently deliver outside Switzerland, and any onward transportation from the Swiss delivery point is the holder's own responsibility.

Can I get cash instead of the physical bar?

Yes. Instead of taking delivery, a verified holder can ask TG Commodities to attempt to sell the bar on their behalf in the Swiss gold market. If the sale succeeds, the proceeds are provided in US dollars, less the applicable fees.

What does redemption cost?

The published terms set a redemption fee of 25 bps (0.25%) of the redemption cost, plus the cost of physical delivery to the chosen location in Switzerland. Separately, becoming a verified customer of the issuer carries a 150 USDT verification fee.

What is the official XAUT contract address?

Tether's supported-protocols page lists the official XAUT contract on Ethereum as 0x68749665FF8D2d112Fa859AA293F07A622782F38. Always confirm the address there before moving tokens — look-alike contracts cannot be redeemed for gold.

Is redemption the only way to convert XAUT to value?

No. Because a full bar is a large minimum, most holders simply sell or swap their XAUT on the market. Redemption exists for holders who specifically want the underlying gold itself.
