What Ondo is

Tokenisation means representing a real-world asset, such as a government bond fund, as a token on a blockchain so it can be held and moved like any other crypto asset. Ondo Finance's products follow this model. OUSG gives eligible investors tokenised exposure to short-term US Treasuries, and USDY is a yield-bearing token backed by short-term Treasuries and bank deposits. Ondo's documentation sets out who is eligible for each product and in which countries; access varies by product and jurisdiction.

The ONDO token is separate from those products. It is used to govern the Ondo DAO and the protocols connected to it, and it is managed through the Ondo Foundation. Holding ONDO does not give you ownership of the Treasuries behind OUSG or USDY, and it does not pay their yield. This distinction is the most important thing for a buyer to understand.

For a buyer, ONDO is an ERC-20 token. Anyone can hold it in an ordinary Ethereum wallet, even though Ondo's tokenised-asset products themselves have eligibility rules.
