About Onyxcoin (XCN)

Crypto token

Onyxcoin (XCN) is a crypto token on the ERC20 network. It powers its project's ecosystem — used for things like access, governance, fees, or rewards — and trades freely against other digital assets.

How does XCN work?

Onyxcoin runs as a token on the ERC20 network, which means it benefits from that chain's security and tooling while serving the specific role its project defines — for example governance votes, platform fees, staking, or in-app utility.

What is XCN used for?

Holders use XCN to participate in the Onyxcoin ecosystem and to gain exposure to the project's growth. As with any token, its value is tied to real usage and demand for what the project offers.

How a XCN swap works

Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send XCN to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.

Choosing a rate for XCN

Three offers are presented for every XCN exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.

Networks and addresses for XCN

Onyxcoin settles on ERC20. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

What does it take for a token that began life on Ethereum to move into a chain of its own?

For most of its life, Onyxcoin was an ERC-20 token, a governance asset living on someone else's chain. Today it pays for gas on Onyx Mainnet, an independent network with its own validators, and the documentation goes out of its way to say this is not a rollup and not a Layer 3. The interesting part is what that move changed, down to some surprisingly unusual choices about fees and decimals.

From a guest token to a home chain

XCN still exists as an ERC-20 on Ethereum, and the original Onyx Governor there is still controlled by XCN stakers on Ethereum. But the centre of gravity has shifted. Onyx's documentation now describes XCN as the native coin of Onyx Mainnet, used for gas and native transfers, with the Ethereum version as one of two representations connected by the Onyx Bridge.

The FAQ answers a question readers may have picked up from earlier material: is Onyx a rollup or a Layer 3? The answer is a flat no. Onyx describes itself as an EVM-compatible Layer 1 with its own aBFT consensus that doesn't depend on another chain for ordering or settlement. The official site calls it a sovereign L1 with its own validator set.[1], [2], [3]

An architecture that looks like a newsroom

The data path Onyx publishes is unusual for an Ethereum-style chain. Consensus validators order transactions and produce the authoritative record. That record goes out as signed record streams to regional mirror services, which feed the APIs, explorers, wallets and JSON-RPC relays everyone else uses.

The documentation draws a practical lesson from this: an explorer or read API can lag while consensus itself is healthy. It tells developers to compare independent signals rather than treating one endpoint as the whole truth. It also notes that validator locations and operator details are deliberately not published in user-facing documentation.[4]

Fees priced in dollars, paid in XCN

Here's a detail most coin pages would skip. Onyx prices network resources in US dollar terms and then converts the charge into XCN at the network's current conversion rate. The aim is predictable costs for users and businesses, whatever the token price does.

Another quirk: native XCN settles on the ledger at 8 decimal places, in a unit the documentation calls tinyxcn, while JSON-RPC shows 18 decimals so Ethereum tools work. Developers are told to round native values to multiples of 10^10 RPC units. Sending to a brand-new address can also cost more than the classic 21,000 gas, because the recipient account may be created on first receipt. The FAQ warns against hard-coding that number.[5], [6], [7]

Only staked XCN gets a vote

Governance on Onyx Chain follows a simple rule the documentation calls the most important one: only staked XCN votes. Holders stake through the Onyx App and receive stXCN, and voting weight equals the stXCN balance at a published snapshot block. Unstaked XCN has no voting power.

Proposals are numbered as Onyx Improvement Proposals (OIP-1, OIP-2 and so on). Voting opens a day after a proposal is created and runs for two days. Approved changes are executed by a Timelock contract, with no multisig or manual admin step. Ethereum governance and Onyx Chain governance are deliberately separate, and XCN staked on one chain never counts as voting power on the other.[8], [9], [10]

Moving the community across

The migration tool shows how a token changes homes in practice. Holders with legacy Ethereum staking positions can approve, unstake, bridge to Onyx and, optionally, have the XCN delivered straight into Onyx liquid staking. The documentation includes a section it titles "Truthful fallback": if the staking step fails, the system delivers native XCN instead and records the error, rather than leaving funds stuck.

Beyond gas and governance, XCN is used in Onyx liquid staking, in the Onyx DEX and bridge, and in ecosystem applications where contracts enable it. The official site aims further: at infrastructure compatible with legacy banking systems.[11], [12]

What the official sources leave open

UNKNOWN from official sources: the current Onyx documentation doesn't tell the project's founding story, name its team, or explain when and why it decided to become its own Layer 1.

Onyx doesn't publish a fixed supply or distribution figure. It says those numbers change with issuance, burns, staking and bridging, and points readers to live on-chain data instead.[13]

What this means when you hold or move XCN

XCN exists in two forms: the ERC-20 on Ethereum (contract 0xA2cd3D43c775978A96BdBf12d733D5A1ED94fb18) and native XCN on Onyx Mainnet (chain ID 327). Make sure your wallet and the network you choose match before you send.

If you move between the two, use the official Onyx Bridge and check its live status and minimums. The documentation warns not to resubmit a transfer just because it's taking longer than you expected.
