About XRP (XRP)
Layer-1 blockchain
XRP (XRP) is a Layer-1 blockchain — a base network with its own consensus, validators, and native coin (XRP) used to pay fees and secure the chain. Developers build applications directly on it, and XRP is the asset that powers the whole ecosystem.
How does XRP work?
The XRP network is maintained by a distributed set of participants who validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. XRP is required to pay for transactions and, on many networks, to stake and help secure the chain in exchange for rewards.
What is XRP used for?
XRP pays network fees, can often be staked for yield, and serves as the core unit of value across apps built on XRP. Demand for XRP tends to track activity and adoption on the network itself.

How a XRP swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send XRP to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for XRP
Three offers are presented for every XRP exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for XRP
XRP settles on XRP. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

Can a public ledger settle payments in seconds without mining or stake-weighted block production?
The XRP Ledger answers that question with a consensus process built around validators comparing proposed transaction sets until their views converge. XRP is the ledger's native asset: it pays the small transaction cost, funds account reserves and can bridge two issued assets when no direct market route is available. The result is a payment-focused network whose speed comes from its agreement model and deliberately limited core transaction vocabulary, not from shortening a proof-of-work race.
Agreement through overlapping validator lists
Each XRP Ledger server chooses a Unique Node List: validators it expects to follow the protocol. During consensus, servers share candidate transaction sets, compare them with messages from those validators and revise their proposals through successive rounds. When the required agreement threshold is reached, the transaction set is applied to produce the next validated ledger version.
The model depends on honest validator lists overlapping sufficiently. That requirement is stated in the protocol documentation and formal analysis, making network configuration part of the design rather than hiding it behind a universal trust label. Operators can publish their own lists, use a recommended list or combine sources; the ledger does not assign voting power through mining equipment or the quantity of XRP held.[1], [2], [3]
A payment toolkit inside the ledger
The ledger supports more than direct XRP transfers. Accounts can issue fungible tokens, establish trust lines that define which issued assets they accept, place offers in a built-in decentralized exchange and send cross-currency payments. Pathfinding can search available order books and liquidity for a route from the sender's asset to the recipient's requested asset.
Embedding these operations in protocol transaction types gives applications a shared settlement vocabulary. Escrow can hold XRP until time or cryptographic conditions are met, while payment channels support repeated off-ledger XRP claims followed by settlement on the ledger. These features focus the network on moving and exchanging value rather than making every behavior an unrestricted program.[4], [5], [6], [7]
XRP as a native bridge and anti-spam resource
Issued currencies on the XRP Ledger represent obligations associated with their issuers. XRP is different because it is native ledger state and does not require a trust line or issuing account. The decentralized exchange can use XRP as an intermediary when that produces a viable path between two other assets, although pathfinding may also discover routes through issued currencies and automated market-maker pools.
Every transaction specifies a cost in XRP. That amount is destroyed rather than paid to validators, and the required cost can rise when the network is under load. Accounts also maintain a reserve in XRP, with additional reserve requirements for ledger objects they own. Together these mechanisms attach a cost to creating persistent state or flooding transactions without turning validation into a fee-earning competition.[8], [9], [10]
Fast ledgers with explicit finality states
A new XRP Ledger version generally closes in several seconds. Applications distinguish a proposed transaction from one included in a validated ledger; the validated result is the state on which services should rely. This distinction lets wallets show rapid progress without treating an unvalidated submission as settled.
Protocol amendments provide the path for adding or changing features. Validators signal support, and an amendment becomes enabled only after maintaining the required level of support for the defined period. The mechanism lets the network evolve while giving operators notice that a rule change is approaching and requiring servers to run software that understands enabled amendments.[11], [12]
The trade-off in chosen trust
Validator-list consensus avoids proof-of-work energy use and does not make voting power proportional to token ownership. In return, server operators must make sound choices about which validators to listen to, and those choices must overlap enough for the network to agree. The protocol's safety analysis therefore concerns both software rules and the topology formed by many operators' lists.
A payment-oriented set of native functions can be easier to inspect than an unrestricted execution environment, but it also means new behavior often arrives through a protocol amendment rather than an arbitrary deployed contract. That is a deliberate boundary: common payment, exchange and token operations receive first-class treatment, while network-wide capabilities change through the amendment process.[2], [12]
What this means when you swap XRP
Use an XRP Ledger address and include the destination tag whenever the receiving service supplies one. Custodial services often use one address for many customers and rely on the tag to credit the correct account. Omitting it may leave a valid on-chain payment that requires manual recovery by the recipient.
A newly created self-custody account needs the network's current base reserve, and owned objects can increase that requirement. Ledger validation is usually quick, although a swap provider may apply its own deposit policy. Check the exact amount, address and tag before sending because a validated payment cannot be cancelled through a card-style chargeback process.

XRP swap FAQ
How do I swap XRP (XRP) instantly on SwapRocket?
Pick XRP as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. SwapRocket hands your order to the provider whose quote pays out the most at that moment, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no SwapRocket account needed.
Can I swap XRP with no KYC?
No SwapRocket account or identity documents are needed to start a crypto-to-crypto swap of XRP. The provider that executes the swap may still request identity verification or hold a swap for review under its own AML and sanctions policy, regardless of amount. Selling to a bank account goes through a regulated payment partner that verifies the payer; card purchases on SwapRocket are coming soon.
Is swapping XRP on SwapRocket non-custodial?
Yes. SwapRocket never holds your funds. The provider that executes the swap receives your deposit, holds it only for the duration of the swap, and sends XRP to the wallet address you provide.
Which network does XRP use here?
SwapRocket supports XRP on the XRP network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.
What fees apply when I swap XRP?
SwapRocket adds no fee or markup to the provider's quote and may earn a commission from the provider on a completed swap. The provider's spread and any network cost it deducts on delivery are already reflected in the XRP amount shown; the network fee your own wallet charges to send the deposit is separate. Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
