About Uniswap (UNI)
Crypto token
Uniswap (UNI) is a crypto token on the ERC20 network. It powers its project's ecosystem — used for things like access, governance, fees, or rewards — and trades freely against other digital assets.
How does UNI work?
Uniswap runs as a token on the ERC20 network, which means it benefits from that chain's security and tooling while serving the specific role its project defines — for example governance votes, platform fees, staking, or in-app utility.
What is UNI used for?
Holders use UNI to participate in the Uniswap ecosystem and to gain exposure to the project's growth. As with any token, its value is tied to real usage and demand for what the project offers.

How a UNI swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send UNI to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for UNI
Three offers are presented for every UNI exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for UNI
Uniswap settles on ERC20. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

How can an exchange quote continuously when nobody has to place the matching order?
Uniswap replaces the traditional order book with pools of tokens governed by transparent formulas. Traders interact with smart contracts rather than a matching engine, liquidity providers supply the inventory, and arbitrage connects each pool's price to the wider market. UNI is the governance asset for this protocol family. Its most useful story is how successive versions have made a simple automated market maker more capital-efficient and programmable without turning it into a centrally operated exchange.
A market made from two reserves
The early Uniswap design stores two token reserves in a pool and uses the constant-product relationship x multiplied by y equals k. A trader adds one token and receives the other; the formula determines how much can leave while preserving the reserve relationship after fees. The exchange rate therefore moves along a curve, and larger trades move it farther because they consume a larger fraction of available liquidity.
No particular liquidity provider has to be online to approve a trade. Providers receive pool shares representing their proportional claim on the reserves and fees. Arbitrageurs compare the pool with prices elsewhere and trade differences, which is how an isolated formula-driven price is pulled toward the broader market. The contracts provide access and deterministic execution; outside trading activity supplies price alignment.[1], [2], [3]
Concentrating liquidity where trading happens
Uniswap v3 lets a provider choose a price interval rather than spreading liquidity across every possible price. Within that interval, the position can offer substantially more depth per unit of capital. Positions are represented individually because two providers can select different ranges and fee tiers even when they support the same pair.
The position changes composition as trades move the market. If price leaves its chosen range, it becomes entirely one of the two assets and stops earning swap fees until price returns. This is not an extra rule added by an operator; it follows directly from the concentrated-liquidity mathematics. Providers gain precision and capital efficiency in exchange for making active decisions about range, fee tier and rebalancing.[4], [5], [6]
Hooks make pools programmable
Uniswap v4 places pools inside a singleton PoolManager and introduces hooks: contracts called at defined moments before or after actions such as pool creation, liquidity changes and swaps. A hook can implement a specialised fee policy, accounting rule or other pool behaviour while the core manager retains shared settlement logic.
The singleton structure enables flash accounting, which tracks net token changes during a sequence and settles them at the end instead of transferring tokens after every intermediate step. Native ETH can also be handled directly. Together, these choices aim to make complex routes and custom pools cheaper to construct while keeping the custom logic visible in the hook selected for that pool.[7], [8], [9]
UNI governs shared protocol decisions
UNI is an ERC-20 token with delegation-based voting. Holders can delegate voting power to themselves or another address without transferring ownership of the tokens. The governance process moves from public discussion and temperature checks into an on-chain proposal that, if approved, can execute through a timelock.
Governance can direct the community treasury and modify parameters controlled by governance contracts. It does not manually approve ordinary swaps: deployed pool contracts execute according to their code for any compatible user. This separates protocol administration from trade execution. A UNI vote concerns shared rules and resources, while a swap remains a direct transaction with a chosen pool.[10], [11], [12]
The trade-off in making liquidity configurable
A fixed constant-product pool is easy to describe, but it uses capital across prices the market may never reach. Concentrated liquidity improves depth where providers expect trades, while requiring those providers to understand range behavior. Hooks extend that flexibility further, and each hook becomes part of the particular pool's rules rather than a property users should assume across all Uniswap pools.
The contracts can make execution permissionless and observable, but they cannot promise a particular price independently of liquidity. A thin pool or a large order can still produce significant price impact. Routers can compare paths and divide trades, yet the quoted outcome always comes from the state of the pools used and the limits the trader authorises.[5], [8], [13]
What this means when you swap UNI
UNI is an ERC-20 token, and versions can appear on several supported networks. Confirm the network and official contract address rather than relying on the ticker alone. Moving an Ethereum UNI balance to another chain requires a supported withdrawal route or bridge; the same hexadecimal address format does not make the balances interchangeable.
When exchanging through an automated pool, review price impact, minimum received and network fees before signing. Slippage tolerance is permission for execution within a range, not an extra service fee. SwapRocket's quoted route may use aggregated liquidity rather than a direct Uniswap pool, so follow the network and deposit instructions printed for that specific quote.
