About Ripple USD (RLUSD)
Stablecoin
Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a stablecoin — a cryptocurrency designed to hold a steady value, typically pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. It lets you move value across crypto markets and wallets without the price swings of assets like Bitcoin or Ethereum.
How does RLUSD stay stable?
RLUSD aims to keep its dollar peg through reserves and on-chain mechanisms that back each token in circulation. Because it settles on the ETH network in seconds, it's widely used for trading, payments, and parking funds between trades without converting back to a bank account.
What is RLUSD used for?
Traders use RLUSD as a safe haven during volatility, as the quote currency in swaps, and to send dollar-denominated value worldwide at low cost. It's one of the most common assets to swap into and out of when entering or exiting other crypto positions.

How a RLUSD swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send RLUSD to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for RLUSD
Three offers are presented for every RLUSD exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for RLUSD
Ripple USD settles on ETH. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

Ripple USD (RLUSD) is a dollar stablecoin from a regulated trust company that runs on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. How do its issuer, its reserves and its two very different ledger designs fit together?
A dollar stablecoin has to earn trust in two places at once. Off the chain, people need confidence that every token is backed and can be redeemed. On the chain, they need a token that works smoothly with wallets, exchanges and applications. Ripple USD approaches this with a regulated issuer that works with approved institutions, reserves described as backing tokens one for one, and native versions on two ledgers built in very different ways. This profile explains how those parts connect, using Ripple's own documentation and announcements.
A regulated issuer
Ripple's documentation states that RLUSD is issued and distributed by Standard Custody and Trust Company, a regulated Ripple subsidiary. Its direct customers are enterprise institutions that have passed identity and anti-money-laundering checks.
Ripple announced that RLUSD became available globally on December 17, 2024, after approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services under a limited-purpose trust charter.[1], [3]
Backed one for one
Ripple's stablecoin page describes RLUSD as fully backed one for one and redeemable through Ripple's minting service. Institutions create new tokens by depositing dollars and redeem tokens for dollars through that channel.
Everyone else typically gets RLUSD from exchanges and applications, which is why a clear issuer and redemption path matter even to people who never deal with Ripple directly.[4], [1]
Native on two ledgers
RLUSD is issued natively on the XRP Ledger and on Ethereum, and Ripple lists further availability on Base, Ink, Optimism, Unichain and the XRPL EVM Sidechain.
On the XRP Ledger, RLUSD is an issued currency: holders set a trust line to the issuer account before they can receive it. Ripple's XRPL guide explains how those trust lines work and lists the mainnet issuer.[2], [5]
An upgradeable contract on Ethereum
On Ethereum, RLUSD uses a proxy design: one contract holds balances and the public address, while a separate implementation contract holds the logic. Ripple's developer guide tells integrators to use the proxy address.
This lets the issuer update the token's logic without asking holders to move to a new address, a common pattern for regulated stablecoins.[6]
One official address list
Ripple publishes every official RLUSD address in one place. The XRP Ledger issuer is rMxCKbEDwqr76QuheSUMdEGf4B9xJ8m5De, and the Ethereum proxy contract is 0x8292bb45bf1ee4d140127049757c2e0ff06317ed.
Checking addresses against that page is the simplest way to avoid imitation tokens that copy the name.[7]
Why two ledgers help
The XRP Ledger and Ethereum serve different users. The XRP Ledger is built for fast, low-cost payments and has trust lines and a built-in exchange at its core. Ethereum has the largest range of lending, trading and payment applications that work with ERC-20 tokens.
By issuing natively on both, rather than relying on a bridge, Ripple lets each version of RLUSD fit naturally into its own ecosystem while the same regulated issuer stands behind both. Holders can choose the ledger that suits how they plan to use their dollars, and institutions can mint or redeem on either through the same service. The official address page keeps the two versions clearly separated.[2], [8], [4]
Who controls contract upgrades
Ripple's documentation explains the upgradeable design, but the pages reviewed do not describe the exact administrative keys or multisignature setup that authorise upgrades or other controls.
Those details are UNKNOWN from public sources and are not guessed at here.[6]
What this means when you hold or move RLUSD
SwapRocket lists RLUSD on Ethereum. Send it only to an Ethereum address from a wallet or service that supports ERC-20 tokens, keep a little ETH for network fees, and confirm the contract address on Ripple's official list.
XRP Ledger addresses and Ethereum addresses are not interchangeable, and RLUSD on the XRP Ledger needs a trust line. Match the network in your quote to what the receiving side supports, and keep the transaction ID until the order completes.

Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
