About Pi (PI)
Layer-1 blockchain
Pi (PI) is a Layer-1 blockchain — a base network with its own consensus, validators, and native coin (PI) used to pay fees and secure the chain. Developers build applications directly on it, and PI is the asset that powers the whole ecosystem.
How does Pi work?
The Pi network is maintained by a distributed set of participants who validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. PI is required to pay for transactions and, on many networks, to stake and help secure the chain in exchange for rewards.
What is PI used for?
PI pays network fees, can often be staked for yield, and serves as the core unit of value across apps built on Pi. Demand for PI tends to track activity and adoption on the network itself.

How a PI swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send PI to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for PI
Three offers are presented for every PI exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for PI
Pi settles on Pi Network. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

Pi Network lets people take part from a phone app instead of mining hardware. How does its consensus design use personal trust circles, and how did its token supply and network open up over time?
Most proof-of-work coins reward whoever runs the most powerful machines, which puts participation out of reach for most people. Pi Network set out to do the opposite: let ordinary users join from a phone, with security built on who trusts whom rather than on raw computing power. It has grown through several stages, from an app with an enclosed network to an open blockchain that can connect to the outside world. This profile explains the design using Pi Network's own white paper and official pages.
Consensus built on trust
Pi's official FAQ explains that its consensus algorithm is adapted from the Stellar Consensus Protocol and Federated Byzantine Agreement. Instead of competing on computing power, nodes agree based on trust relationships.
Those relationships come from users' Security Circles, small groups of people each user vouches for. Combined across the network, they form a global trust graph that the consensus relies on. This is why taking part from a phone uses so little energy.[1], [2]
Security Circles and participation
Pi's FAQ on earning more Pi describes how building a Security Circle and a referral team increases a user's mining rate.
In other words, the same actions that strengthen the network's trust graph are the ones that are rewarded, lining up personal incentives with network security.[3]
From enclosed network to fixed rewards
According to Pi's FAQ, the Mainnet phase with an Enclosed Network began on December 28, 2021, together with a new mining mechanism and a defined supply model.
From March 2022 a gradually declining reward formula replaced the earlier halving steps. The FAQ states that mining rewards are capped within a limit of 65 billion Pi.[4], [5]
A white paper that grew with the project
Pi's white paper was first published on March 14, 2019. In December 2021 new chapters on the token model, mining and the roadmap were added to the original document.
Keeping these additions in one official document makes it easier to follow how the design has changed since launch.[6], [7]
The Open Network
A press release published through Chainwire and quoting Pi Network co-founder Nicolas Kokkalis announced that the Open Network launched on February 20, 2025. It allows Pi's blockchain to connect with outside systems.
That step moved Pi from an enclosed network toward one where Pi can move beyond the app itself.[8]
Why a phone-first design matters
Proof-of-work mining rewards specialised hardware and cheap electricity, which leaves most people out. Pi's approach asks users to open an app, confirm they are active and vouch for people they know.
That lowers the cost of taking part to almost nothing, and it lets the network grow through personal connections rather than through investment in machines. The declining reward formula and the fixed mining cap then shape how much new Pi reaches those users over time.
The white paper and official FAQ pages record each of these rules, so newcomers can read how the system works before joining.[2], [5], [3]
Trust graphs at very large scale
Security built on personal trust circles depends on those circles being genuine. Pi's public documentation does not set out a formal analysis of how the trust graph resists coordinated groups of accounts vouching for each other at the scale of a large mobile user base.
How robust that is in practice is UNKNOWN from public sources and is not guessed at here.[1]
What this means when you hold or move Pi
Pi runs on its own blockchain rather than as a token on another chain. An official address format and contract details could not be confirmed on Pi's pages for this profile, so check them in the official Pi Wallet before any transfer.
SwapRocket currently shows no working swap route for Pi, so this page is for reading only for now. Back up your wallet's recovery phrase and never share it.

Fees and pricing
Zero added fees: SwapRocket does not add a platform fee, a minimum or a withdrawal charge — the rate you see is the rate you get. Blockchain network fees are shown in full before you confirm, and the final amount you receive is quoted up front.
SwapRocket does not add a separate fee or markup to the provider quote. SwapRocket may earn a commission from the liquidity provider when a completed swap is referred through our platform. Provider spreads and applicable network costs are reflected in the quoted amount.
Network fees are set by the blockchain, not by SwapRocket. No account, no subscription and no withdrawal charge. Live support is available 24/7.
PI swap FAQ
How do I swap Pi (PI) instantly on SwapRocket?
Pick PI as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. SwapRocket hands your order to the provider whose quote pays out the most at that moment, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no SwapRocket account needed.
Can I swap PI with no KYC?
No SwapRocket account or identity documents are needed to start a crypto-to-crypto swap of PI. The provider that executes the swap may still request identity verification or hold a swap for review under its own AML and sanctions policy, regardless of amount. Selling to a bank account goes through a regulated payment partner that verifies the payer; card purchases on SwapRocket are coming soon.
Is swapping Pi on SwapRocket non-custodial?
Yes. SwapRocket never holds your funds. The provider that executes the swap receives your deposit, holds it only for the duration of the swap, and sends PI to the wallet address you provide.
Which network does PI use here?
SwapRocket supports Pi on the Pi Network network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.
What fees apply when I swap PI?
SwapRocket adds no fee or markup to the provider's quote and may earn a commission from the provider on a completed swap. The provider's spread and any network cost it deducts on delivery are already reflected in the PI amount shown; the network fee your own wallet charges to send the deposit is separate. Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
