About Injective (INJ)
Layer-1 blockchain
Injective (INJ) is a Layer-1 blockchain — a base network with its own consensus, validators, and native coin (INJ) used to pay fees and secure the chain. Developers build applications directly on it, and INJ is the asset that powers the whole ecosystem.
How does Injective work?
The Injective network is maintained by a distributed set of participants who validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. INJ is required to pay for transactions and, on many networks, to stake and help secure the chain in exchange for rewards.
What is INJ used for?
INJ pays network fees, can often be staked for yield, and serves as the core unit of value across apps built on Injective. Demand for INJ tends to track activity and adoption on the network itself.

How a INJ swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send INJ to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for INJ
Three offers are presented for every INJ exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for INJ
Injective settles on Injective. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

What is INJ? · Sourced guide · Updated · 9 sources cited
Injective is a proof-of-stake blockchain built for financial applications. How do its consensus design, its weekly burn auction and its adjustable issuance fit together, and what does INJ do inside that system?
Every proof-of-stake network has to balance two forces. New tokens reward the validators and stakers who secure the chain, while fees and demand decide how much value flows back to holders. Injective makes that balance unusually explicit. Its issuance responds to how much INJ is staked, and a regular auction turns fees from applications into INJ that is permanently burned. Both are governed on-chain by INJ holders, who voted through a major tokenomics upgrade in 2024. This profile explains the design using Injective's documentation, research paper and governance records.
A Cosmos SDK chain with fast finality
Injective's documentation describes INJ as the native asset of the network and part of its custom implementation of Tendermint proof-of-stake consensus. The infrastructure overview explains that this Byzantine fault tolerant design gives transactions finality within seconds, so a confirmed transaction does not need to wait for additional blocks.
Validators run nodes with staked INJ as collateral. The documentation sets out demanding hardware expectations for them, reflecting the chain's focus on trading and other finance workloads that need steady performance.[1], [2]
What INJ is used for
INJ secures the network through staking and slashing, is used for governance votes, and serves as a medium of exchange across applications on Injective. It uses 18 decimal places, matching the way Ether is divided on Ethereum.
Fees are calculated as gas used multiplied by the gas price, and the documentation lists the current minimum gas price set by validators. Knowing how fees are calculated helps users and developers predict costs.[1], [3]
Issuance that responds to staking
Injective's mint module is designed to allow a flexible inflation rate that targets a chosen share of INJ being staked. When less is staked than the target, issuance can rise to encourage staking; when more is staked, it can fall.
In 2024 the community approved proposal 409, which lowered the lower and upper bounds of that inflation rate to 4.875% and 9.625%. The change came as part of a broader tokenomics upgrade.[4], [5]
INJ 3.0 and the burn auction
Injective's tokenomics paper analyses how INJ's design connects issuance and burning. A central piece is the burn auction, in which fees gathered from applications are auctioned and the INJ used to win is burned for good.
In April 2024 holders voted on proposal 392, called INJ 3.0. The on-chain record shows about 93% of votes in favour, on a turnout of about 74%, and Injective announced that the upgrade went live afterwards. Its stated aim was to make INJ's supply more deflationary over time.[6], [7], [8], [9]
Governance that leaves a public record
Changes like INJ 3.0 and the inflation bounds were made through on-chain proposals, where each vote, turnout figure and result is stored on the chain and visible in explorers.
Injective's later writing on its token economy describes the 2024 approval of INJ 3.0 as a milestone in an ongoing series of governance-led changes. That gives holders a clear trail of how the rules have evolved and who approved them.[7], [5], [9]
Balancing staking rewards and a shrinking supply
Stakers are rewarded partly through new issuance, while the burn auction removes INJ as application fees grow. How those two forces will balance over many years depends on staking levels, fee volume and future governance decisions.
The long-run outcome is UNKNOWN and is not predicted here. The parameters that decide it are public and can only be changed by on-chain vote.[4], [6]
What this means when you hold or move INJ
SwapRocket lists INJ on its native Injective network. Native addresses start with inj1. INJ also exists as wrapped or bridged versions on other chains that use 0x addresses, so check that the network in your quote matches what the receiving wallet or service supports.
Staked INJ goes through an unbonding period before it can be moved again. A swap provider sets its own confirmation policy before releasing the destination coin. Keep the transaction ID until the order completes, and back up your recovery phrase.
