About Gnosis (GNO)

Crypto token

Gnosis (GNO) is a crypto token on the ERC20 network. It powers its project's ecosystem — used for things like access, governance, fees, or rewards — and trades freely against other digital assets.

How does GNO work?

Gnosis runs as a token on the ERC20 network, which means it benefits from that chain's security and tooling while serving the specific role its project defines — for example governance votes, platform fees, staking, or in-app utility.

What is GNO used for?

Holders use GNO to participate in the Gnosis ecosystem and to gain exposure to the project's growth. As with any token, its value is tied to real usage and demand for what the project offers.

How a GNO swap works

Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send GNO to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.

Choosing a rate for GNO

Three offers are presented for every GNO exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.

Networks and addresses for GNO

Gnosis settles on ERC20. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

Gnosis has been a prediction-market project, a wallet developer and now a chain ecosystem. What is Gnosis today, and what does GNO actually secure?

Gnosis is a long-running Ethereum ecosystem project whose products include Gnosis Chain, an EVM-compatible network secured by GNO staking. This profile is built from Gnosis's own site and the Gnosis Chain documentation, with everything else marked unverified.

What Gnosis says it is

Gnosis's own site presents the project as an ecosystem of open infrastructure for the internet, and the Gnosis Chain documentation describes the chain as an EVM-compatible network that developers can build on, with bridges to move tokens between chains and the ability for anyone to run a node. The documentation states the network has over 200,000 nodes.

GNO is the token that secures Gnosis Chain through staking and anchors the GnosisDAO governance system. Gnosis is also known for products around the chain — including Safe, the widely used multisig wallet that originated in the Gnosis ecosystem — though Safe now operates as its own project.[1], [2], [3]

How it works

Gnosis Chain runs as an Ethereum-compatible proof-of-stake network. Validators stake GNO to propose and attest to blocks; the documentation provides node-operator guides, RPC providers, faucets and developer tooling. Because it is EVM-compatible, standard Ethereum tooling works on it, and bridges connect it to Ethereum mainnet and other networks.

The documentation also notes that Gnosis bridges are set to integrate a Fast Confirmation Rule. Beyond the chain, the Gnosis ecosystem has incubated or spun out several products, and Gnosis's site presents an Open Internet Kit as an umbrella for its current product direction.

The documentation is organised for three audiences — developers building on the chain, node operators running infrastructure, and users moving assets across bridges — which matches how the project presents the chain: as neutral infrastructure that others build consumer-facing products on top of, rather than a single application with one primary use.[4], [5], [6], [8]

What GNO is used for

GNO has two documented roles. First, it is the staking asset of Gnosis Chain: validators lock GNO to participate in consensus. Second, it is the governance asset of GnosisDAO, the organisation that steers the ecosystem's treasury and direction.

GNO is not the gas token of Gnosis Chain — transaction fees on the chain are paid in xDai, a bridged stablecoin, which is an unusual design among layer-1-style networks. That separation means holding GNO is a bet on the ecosystem's infrastructure rather than a direct claim on transaction-fee revenue.[7]

Risks and open questions

Gnosis Chain is a sidechain secured by its own validator set rather than by Ethereum directly, so its security budget depends on the value and distribution of staked GNO. Bridge risk is also material: assets moved to Gnosis Chain rely on the Gnosis bridges, and bridges have historically been among the most attacked pieces of crypto infrastructure.

Finally, the Gnosis ecosystem's strategy has evolved repeatedly — from prediction markets to wallets to a chain to the current Open Internet Kit framing — so older descriptions of what GNO is for may be out of date.

What the official sources do not say

UNKNOWN from official sources: the current number and distribution of active validators (the 200,000-plus node figure in the documentation is not broken down), current GNO staking yields, and up-to-date usage figures for the Open Internet Kit products.

It is not predicted here.

What this means when you hold or move GNO

If you hold GNO, remember it exists on both Ethereum mainnet and Gnosis Chain, and the two are bridged versions of the same asset — check which network your tokens are on before transacting.

If you use Gnosis Chain, you will need xDai for gas rather than GNO, so plan for that before moving funds across the bridge. Keep your transaction ID until delivery so you can trace it on the relevant explorer.

Fees and pricing

Zero added fees: SwapRocket does not add a platform fee, a minimum or a withdrawal charge — the rate you see is the rate you get. Blockchain network fees are shown in full before you confirm, and the final amount you receive is quoted up front.

SwapRocket does not add a separate fee or markup to the provider quote. SwapRocket may earn a commission from the liquidity provider when a completed swap is referred through our platform. Provider spreads and applicable network costs are reflected in the quoted amount.

Network fees are set by the blockchain, not by SwapRocket. No account, no subscription and no withdrawal charge. Live support is available 24/7.

GNO swap FAQ

How do I swap Gnosis (GNO) instantly on SwapRocket?

Pick GNO as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. SwapRocket hands your order to the provider whose quote pays out the most at that moment, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no SwapRocket account needed.

Can I swap GNO with no KYC?

No SwapRocket account or identity documents are needed to start a crypto-to-crypto swap of GNO. The provider that executes the swap may still request identity verification or hold a swap for review under its own AML and sanctions policy, regardless of amount. Selling to a bank account goes through a regulated payment partner that verifies the payer; card purchases on SwapRocket are coming soon.

Is swapping Gnosis on SwapRocket non-custodial?

Yes. SwapRocket never holds your funds. The provider that executes the swap receives your deposit, holds it only for the duration of the swap, and sends GNO to the wallet address you provide.

Which network does GNO use here?

SwapRocket supports Gnosis on the ERC20 network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.

What fees apply when I swap GNO?

SwapRocket adds no fee or markup to the provider's quote and may earn a commission from the provider on a completed swap. The provider's spread and any network cost it deducts on delivery are already reflected in the GNO amount shown; the network fee your own wallet charges to send the deposit is separate. Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
