About Bitcoin SV (BSV)

Layer-1 blockchain

Bitcoin SV (BSV) is a Layer-1 blockchain — a base network with its own consensus, validators, and native coin (BSV) used to pay fees and secure the chain. Developers build applications directly on it, and BSV is the asset that powers the whole ecosystem.

How does Bitcoin SV work?

The Bitcoin SV network is maintained by a distributed set of participants who validate transactions and add them to the blockchain. BSV is required to pay for transactions and, on many networks, to stake and help secure the chain in exchange for rewards.

What is BSV used for?

BSV pays network fees, can often be staked for yield, and serves as the core unit of value across apps built on Bitcoin SV. Demand for BSV tends to track activity and adoption on the network itself.

How a BSV swap works

Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send BSV to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.

Choosing a rate for BSV

Three offers are presented for every BSV exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.

Networks and addresses for BSV

Bitcoin SV settles on BSV. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

BSV bets that Bitcoin scales best by keeping the original protocol fixed and removing the block-size limit. How do uncapped blocks, restored Bitcoin Script and the Teranode project fit that bet?

BSV Blockchain describes itself as Bitcoin's original design: an electronic cash system built to handle global transaction volumes without artificial constraints. Its approach is to keep the protocol stable, let blocks grow as large as demand requires, and restore the original Bitcoin Script so data and payments share one chain. This profile explains that design using the BSV Blockchain site and its official documentation.

The original design, kept fixed

BSV's founding position is that the Bitcoin protocol, as described in Satoshi Nakamoto's whitepaper, was already capable of scaling, and that later changes to other implementations moved away from that design. BSV therefore treats protocol stability as a feature in its own right: developers and enterprises, the project argues, can build with confidence that the fundamental rules will not change based on developer whims or political decisions.

That stance shapes everything else about the network. Instead of adding new layers to work around capacity limits, BSV removes the limit itself and asks the base layer to carry the load.[1], [2]

Blocks without a protocol-defined ceiling

The most visible expression of that philosophy is block size. BSV has no protocol-defined maximum block size, so capacity can grow naturally as demand grows. The project reports that the network has already processed blocks as large as 4 GB and handled more than 50 million transactions in a single day.

On throughput, the BSV Blockchain site states that the mainnet processes thousands of transactions per second today. These are the project's own published figures; they describe capacity the network is built to sustain rather than a promise about future demand.[3], [4], [5]

Teranode: rebuilding the node as modular services

To push capacity further, the ecosystem is developing Teranode, a modular, microservice-based node architecture. Instead of one monolithic program doing everything, Teranode splits the node's work into specialised services that can be scaled independently.

The BSV Blockchain site reports that Teranode has achieved over one million transactions per second on its testnet, and names one million transactions per second as the project's target. Testnet results are not mainnet results, but they indicate the architecture the network is committed to.[6], [7]

Script and data on the base layer

BSV restored the original Bitcoin Script functionality, providing smart-contract-style programmability without additional layers or protocols. Because blocks are large, a single script can include up to 4.2 GB of data, which is what enables data-heavy applications to live directly on the chain.

The underlying accounting model is Bitcoin's UTXO model: each transaction is a complete transfer of satoshis from one party to another, and the UTXO set maintains the current state of ownership. Because transactions are independent, they can be processed in parallel, which is the technical basis for the network's scaling claims.[8], [9]

Light clients through SPV

For everyday users, BSV leans on Simplified Payment Verification, the mechanism outlined in the original Bitcoin whitepaper. With SPV, a wallet can confirm that a payment was included in the chain without downloading the entire history, which keeps lightweight payments practical even as blocks grow very large.

The official documentation, maintained as the BSV Skills Center, covers the network access rules, node software, overlay services and SPV wallets that make up this stack, along with the technical standards process used to coordinate them.[10], [11]

Who maintains it

The BSV Association acts as the ecosystem's steward, and the BSV Blockchain site directs visitors to it for standards, education and network policy. The documentation hub links the association's GitHub repositories, specifications and support channels.

For a holder, the practical takeaway is that BSV's roadmap is unusually centralised around a single declared principle: a stable protocol whose capacity grows through engineering rather than rule changes.[12], [11]

Whether demand arrives at the scale the design assumes

BSV's engineering assumes that very large blocks and very high throughput will eventually be needed and used. The project's own figures show the capacity exists; how much of that capacity the market will routinely use is UNKNOWN from public sources.

It is not predicted here.[4], [7]

What this means when you hold or move BSV

SwapRocket lists BSV on its own native chain. Send it only to a wallet that supports BSV specifically — a Bitcoin (BTC) or Bitcoin Cash (BCH) address is a different network even though the address format can look similar.

Network fees on BSV are low by design, but the usual care still applies: match the network in your quote to the receiving wallet, and keep the transaction ID until the swap completes.

Is swapping Bitcoin SV on SwapRocket non-custodial?

Yes. SwapRocket never holds your funds. The provider that executes the swap receives your deposit, holds it only for the duration of the swap, and sends BSV to the wallet address you provide.

Which network does BSV use here?

SwapRocket supports Bitcoin SV on the BSV network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.

What fees apply when I swap BSV?

SwapRocket adds no fee or markup to the provider's quote and may earn a commission from the provider on a completed swap. The provider's spread and any network cost it deducts on delivery are already reflected in the BSV amount shown; the network fee your own wallet charges to send the deposit is separate. Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
