About Audius (AUDIO)
Crypto token
Audius (AUDIO) is a crypto token on the ETH network. It powers its project's ecosystem — used for things like access, governance, fees, or rewards — and trades freely against other digital assets.
How does AUDIO work?
Audius runs as a token on the ETH network, which means it benefits from that chain's security and tooling while serving the specific role its project defines — for example governance votes, platform fees, staking, or in-app utility.
What is AUDIO used for?
Holders use AUDIO to participate in the Audius ecosystem and to gain exposure to the project's growth. As with any token, its value is tied to real usage and demand for what the project offers.

How a AUDIO swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send AUDIO to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for AUDIO
Three offers are presented for every AUDIO exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for AUDIO
Audius settles on ETH. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

Most streaming services run their catalogue on servers that one company owns. What does it take to run a music service on hardware that the community owns instead, and where does AUDIO fit in?
Audius is a music streaming service built on the Open Audio Protocol, a community-run network for publishing and streaming audio. AUDIO is the token that node operators stake to secure that network, that unlocks extra artist tools, and that carries governance votes.
A streaming service nobody owns outright
The Audius documentation describes the project as a decentralized, community-owned and artist-controlled music-sharing protocol. Its stated mission is to give everyone the freedom to share, monetize and listen to any audio, and to let artists publish and distribute their work directly to fans.
The docs pitch the developer side as something like a free, open alternative to a Spotify-style API: the catalogue is permissionless, and anyone can build apps that stream, search or extend it through a REST API and a JavaScript SDK.[1], [2]
Three kinds of participant
The protocol documentation names three groups. Artists upload tracks, build albums and share with their followers. Fans stream, make playlists, follow artists and re-share. Node operators serve app traffic, stream songs and help secure the network. One person can belong to all three.
Behind those roles sit specific services. Content nodes keep user content available on IPFS, including metadata, images and audio. Discovery nodes index the Audius contracts on Ethereum so that apps can query them through an API. An identity service relays transactions and pays gas on behalf of users, so a listener does not need to manage fees to use the app.[3], [4], [5]
AUDIO as security
The token documentation describes AUDIO as having three prongs: security, feature access and governance. All three rest on staking. Node operators stake AUDIO as collateral when they register a discovery or content node.
The docs add a detail that shapes operator behaviour: the larger the stake, the higher the probability that a node is used by fans and artists. Audius says the network is entirely hosted and operated by the community, which is why staked collateral, rather than a company contract, is what keeps operators honest.[6], [7]
AUDIO as an artist tool
The second prong is feature access. AUDIO serves as collateral to unlock extra artist tooling. The documentation lists early community-incubated examples: artist tokens, badges and earnings multipliers.
It also describes a direction rather than a finished feature: in future, fans may be able to delegate AUDIO to specific artists and curators to share in their growth. Readers should treat that as a stated plan, not something live today.[8]
AUDIO as a vote
Staking AUDIO gives governance weight, with each staked token equal to one vote. The documentation says every aspect of Audius is governable and aims to involve even passive fans in product and feature decisions.
Issuance is designed to reward activity rather than size alone. According to the docs, ongoing issuance is directed by on-chain metrics towards active participants, not just the largest stakers. Stakers earn that issuance alongside governance weight and feature access, and the docs say AUDIO is intended to govern a global fee pool from value transfers in the network in future.
Put together, the three prongs describe one loop. Operators lock tokens to run the infrastructure that streams music; artists lock tokens to reach extra tools; and the same stake carries a say over how the protocol changes. Issuance is the reward that keeps those participants engaged, and the design choice to favour activity over size is the project's answer to a common worry about staking systems, that the biggest holders simply accumulate more. Whether that balance holds in practice depends on live network data, which this guide does not claim to know. What the documentation does make clear is that AUDIO is a working part of how Audius runs, not a separate add-on to a streaming app.[9], [10], [11]
What remains unknown
Current issuance rates, total staked AUDIO, the number of active nodes and the timing of fan delegation or the global fee pool are UNKNOWN from the official documentation used here.
What this means when you hold or move AUDIO
AUDIO can exist on more than one network. Before you send it, check which network the receiving wallet or exchange expects, and test with a small amount. Staking and node rules belong to the protocol docs, so check them there before locking tokens.
