About Aave (AAVE)
Crypto token
Aave (AAVE) is a crypto token on the ERC20 network. It powers its project's ecosystem — used for things like access, governance, fees, or rewards — and trades freely against other digital assets.
How does AAVE work?
Aave runs as a token on the ERC20 network, which means it benefits from that chain's security and tooling while serving the specific role its project defines — for example governance votes, platform fees, staking, or in-app utility.
What is AAVE used for?
Holders use AAVE to participate in the Aave ecosystem and to gain exposure to the project's growth. As with any token, its value is tied to real usage and demand for what the project offers.

How a AAVE swap works
Enter the amount you want to exchange, pick the asset on the other side, and SwapRocket queries every connected exchange partner at once. You choose an offer, paste the wallet address that should receive the funds, and send AAVE to the deposit address shown. The partner executes the trade and pays out to your address — SwapRocket never holds your coins, and there is no account to create before you start.
Choosing a rate for AAVE
Three offers are presented for every AAVE exchange. The best rate returns the largest amount for the size you entered. The fastest route favours the partner with the shortest expected settlement time, which matters when the market is moving. The fixed rate locks the quoted amount for the duration of the order, so what you are shown is what arrives, at the cost of a slightly smaller payout. Floating offers can move with the market between deposit and settlement.
Networks and addresses for AAVE
Aave settles on ERC20. Always send from and to an address on that network: a deposit sent over a different chain cannot be recovered by the exchange partner. When an asset exists on several chains, pick the matching network in the widget before copying the deposit address, and send a small test amount first if you are unsure.

AAVE governs the Aave lending protocol. How do holders vote, how does staking AAVE help protect the protocol, and how does the DAO's buyback programme connect protocol revenue back to the token?
Aave lets people lend and borrow crypto through smart contracts rather than through a bank. The rules of that system, from which assets are listed to how risk is managed, are set by holders of the AAVE token. AAVE also has a second job: holders can stake it as a backstop for the protocol. This profile explains both roles, using Aave's own documentation and open-source code.
A governance token on Ethereum
Aave's documentation describes AAVE as the native governance token of the Aave Protocol and an ERC-20 token on Ethereum.
The token's open-source contract defines its name as Aave Token, its symbol as AAVE and its precision as 18 decimals, so anyone can read exactly what the token is.[1], [11]
Who votes, and how
The protocol is governed by holders of AAVE, staked AAVE (stkAAVE) and aAAVE on Ethereum mainnet, through proposals, voting and execution by smart contracts.
Holders can vote directly or delegate their voting power to someone else, which lets people who follow governance closely represent those who do not.[9], [2]
Cheaper voting with Governance v3
Aave Governance v3 lets holders vote on lower-fee networks such as Polygon PoS and Avalanche C-Chain, while their tokens stay on Ethereum.
Ethereum remains the core network where voting power lives. The deployed governance contracts are published in the project's open-source repository.[7], [8], [10]
Staking as a backstop
Holders can stake AAVE in the Aave Safety Module. Aave's documentation explains that this strengthens the system by providing a backstop in case of insolvency, in exchange for staking rewards.
That puts the people who govern the protocol alongside those who help protect it.[6]
Revenue returning to the token
The Aave DAO approved a buyback programme in August 2024 that uses protocol revenue to acquire AAVE, with purchases running since April 2025 within a fixed annual budget.
Purchases are carried out by the Aave Finance Committee, a four-member multisignature group of Chaos Labs, TokenLogic, LlamaRisk and ACI that needs three of four signatures. Acquired tokens go to the Aave DAO Ecosystem Reserve and are used through programmes that governance approves, rather than burned.[3], [4], [5]
One address book for every network
Aave runs on many networks, so it publishes an address book of its deployed contracts. Developers and users can check the official addresses there instead of relying on links from elsewhere.[12]
Why these pieces fit together
A lending protocol needs clear rules, a way to change them and a plan for rare losses. AAVE ties all three together. Holders vote on the rules or delegate that job, Governance v3 keeps voting affordable by moving it to lower-fee networks, and the Safety Module gives stakers a direct role in protecting the protocol if something goes wrong.
The buyback programme closes the loop by sending part of the protocol's revenue back into AAVE, held in a reserve that governance controls. Every step is carried out by published contracts or a named committee with a signing threshold, so people can see who acts and under which rules.
For a newcomer, the easiest way to understand AAVE is as the steering wheel and the safety net of the Aave protocol at the same time.[2], [7], [6], [3], [4]
How the reserve is put to use
Bought-back AAVE goes to the DAO's Ecosystem Reserve for governance-approved programmes. Which programmes those tokens will fund in future is UNKNOWN from public sources, because each use needs its own vote.
It is not predicted here.[5]
What this means when you hold or move AAVE
SwapRocket lists AAVE as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Send it only to an Ethereum address starting with 0x from a wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens, and keep some ETH for network fees.
Check the token contract in Aave's address book before adding it to a wallet, and keep the transaction ID until the swap completes.

AAVE swap FAQ
How do I swap Aave (AAVE) instantly on SwapRocket?
Pick AAVE as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. SwapRocket hands your order to the provider whose quote pays out the most at that moment, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no SwapRocket account needed.
Can I swap AAVE with no KYC?
No SwapRocket account or identity documents are needed to start a crypto-to-crypto swap of AAVE. The provider that executes the swap may still request identity verification or hold a swap for review under its own AML and sanctions policy, regardless of amount. Selling to a bank account goes through a regulated payment partner that verifies the payer; card purchases on SwapRocket are coming soon.
Is swapping Aave on SwapRocket non-custodial?
Yes. SwapRocket never holds your funds. The provider that executes the swap receives your deposit, holds it only for the duration of the swap, and sends AAVE to the wallet address you provide.
Which network does AAVE use here?
SwapRocket supports Aave on the ERC20 network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.
What fees apply when I swap AAVE?
SwapRocket adds no fee or markup to the provider's quote and may earn a commission from the provider on a completed swap. The provider's spread and any network cost it deducts on delivery are already reflected in the AAVE amount shown; the network fee your own wallet charges to send the deposit is separate. Spreads vary by provider, pair and size, so compare the quoted receive amount.
